Senate Unanimously Passes Resolution Designating November As 'Hip-Hop History Month'

 Fans of hip-hop stand up!

On Monday (August 2), the United States Senate unanimously passed Resolution 331, a bill that officially designates August 11, 2021, as "Hip Hop Celebration Day" and November 2021 as "Hip Hop History Month."

"Hip-hop transcend[s] many different ages, ethnicities, religions, locations, political affiliations, and socioeconomic statuses, which demonstrates the melting-pot quality of Hip-Hop art and culture," the bill, which marks the first-ever resolution to recognize hip-hop as a whole, states.

The resolution was introduced late last month by its sponsor Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), and cosponsors, Senators Bill Cassidy (R-La.) and Alex Padilla (D-Calif.).

As noted by The Hill, the resolution "encourages senators to plan celebratory activities that commemorate all of hip-hop cultural influence in the U.S. and recommends local governments build partnerships with local hip-hop organizations and communities as a way to support the development of music and arts."
