When Chicago’s beloved house music ambassador DERRICK CARTER gets on the decks, there’s always a party about to break out. . Nobody brings more know-how to the booth than the celebrated boss of the boompty boomp sound, and the intimate confines of Sullivan Room fits him like a glove. After absolutely killing it in January for Basic NYC, he’s coming back to New York for his second Sully apperance of 2010. Get ready for more furious mixing, lost dancefloor classics, hip-hop acapellas, and a vibe second to none.

Mixing up a storm behind the decks, Derrick’s sets are anything but predictable. With his signature sound as his foundation – the bass-thumping, boompty-boompty beats teased together with notes of jazz, R&B and funk – Carter drops everything from disco to techno into the mix. Flawlessly blended together, his music captures everything great about house music and it’s Chicago roots. As a DJ who feels that he’s at his best in an intimate space like Sullivan Room, Derrick always puts on quite a show at the club.

A proud Windy City native, Derrick Carter is synonymous with that city's storied house music history. He emerged in the mid-1990s on the strength of his DJing, finely–tuned from gigging in Chicago's fiercely competitive club and warehouse party scene, and his early tracks and productions. His stripped-down, bass-heavy sound, mixed with a wiggly, shuffling rhythm, helped crystallize the jerky, "tracky" style of house that came to define the Chicago sound, while Derrick's own UK-based label, Classic Music Company, launched him to international acclaim. He has released a string of legendary tracks and remixes, on labels as diverse as OM, Get Physical, NRK, and turned out mix CDs for Ministry of Sound, Azuli, and DMC.

Also appearing on the night will be Basic NYC residents Sleepy & Boo, who have the honor of opening up for Derrick. After setting up the Sullivan Room perfectly for last weekend’s Salted Showcase with Miguel Migs, the duo will again be dropping a set of chunky, percussive house grooves to get everybody moving. The Love Sound Project’s DBOW and Chris Love will be playing the first set of the night. It’s already been a big 2010 at the Sullivan Room for Basic NYC, and there’s even more to come as Spring arrives in the Big Apple.

For those of you who don’t know………
Ron Trent a Chicago resident became a DJ in the mid 80’s. In 1990 his 1st release “Altered States” brought him international notoriety & is still highly recognized to this day. The early 90’s he worked with Jive Record producers, then in 1993 together with Chex Damier, there was the birth of Prescription Label, one of the most prominent Deep House imprints of its time. He moved to NY in the late 90’s where he played at some legendary parties such as Body & Soul & Shelter. In 2000 Trent began his residency with Giant Step at Shine one of the most pinnacle nightclubs of that time.
This man has produced on the Giant Step/Sony label, working with the likes of Amel Larrieux, Carl Hancock Rux & Jody Watley, just to name a few. To this day he still DJ’s all over the world & on March 21st we bring him to you.
