Antifmradio News : SPOTLIGHT ON THE TOOLROOM KNIGHTS
Posted by: antifmradio   Date:06-Sun-2009
As one half of the internationally renowned and award winning duo Gabriel & Dresden, Josh Gabriel has no less than 17 US Billboard number 1's under his belt. Influenced heavily by his love of early 1980's New Wave, Josh's passion for melancholic music and lyrics runs deep. This is why you might not be surprised to find out he has been behind some of the biggest anthems to hit the clubs and radio. As a member of Motorcycle, Josh co-wrote and produced their smash "As the Rush Comes," reaching number 11 in the UK pop charts and topping the US dance radio chart in 2004.

Since disbanding Gabriel & Dresden last year, Josh Gabriel has moved in a more progressive techno direction, focused on reaching the ears of clubbers worldwide. While Gabriel & Dresden’s work remains in the hearts of many fans (so much so that they were represented again in this year’s in DJ Mag Top 100 poll) Gabriel’s solo style has evolved significantly. Josh has achieved the difficult feat of cross genre acceptance, receiving rotation from house heavy weights like John Digweed, Carl Cox, Sander Kleinenberg and Danny Howells.

Antifmradio News : INTERVIEW: Ferry Corsten on Creamfields
Posted by: antifmradio   Date:06-Tue-2009
You absolutely smashed it at Creamfields 10th Anniversary, are you looking forward to coming back in 2009?

I had an amazing time at Creamfields’10th anniversary last year, a blast... I can’t wait to be back this year!

What can the Creamfields clubbers expect this year from your set?

Big high energy with lots of new remixes, goodies, and tracks from my album

What has 2009 got in store for you?

I’ve recently released my artist album “Twice In A Blue Moon” (TIABM). In order to support this release, we’ve recently introduced a concert concept called TIABM: The Experience. It’s an amazing show that focuses on the album and includes a lot of surprises...

What do you prefer, DJing or producing?

I started of as a producer but I’ve been djing for so long now that I really can’t choose one or the other. It’s a chicken and egg situation really.

Have you got anything coming out this year?

I’m currently working on the release of a single of the album called “We Belong”...it’s got a great funny video... I loved making it.

Congratulations on becoming a dad

2009 Preview for the World's Biggest Club..........

Privi gets a hard time from the cynical, “been there done that” clubbing crowd in Ibiza. It’s humungous size is often cited as an obstacle to the atmosphere and issues over sound quality in the main room perpetuate like an urban myth! (If it can handle CJ Bolland’s ‘The Prophet’ - that’s a 1997 tune for the kids! - then it’s alright for me. Of course, Manumission pushed the club’s production capabilities to the limit for years, no one did it quite like the Mish, but now a new breed of shows has developed.

Superstar Tiesto hosts a Monday night extravaganza that uses a full production team in order to maintain the standards he has set during his stadium size gigs around the world. Perhaps even surpassing Tiesto’s show, are the Supemartxé shenanigans, which were easily the best ‘new’ party anywhere in Ibiza during 2008.

Sandwiched in between these two mammoth spectacles are a pair of the best techno and minimal parties you’ll find on the globe and with dc10 remaining closed, you feel Privilege can really make the most of the techno lovers who flock to the island each year. Mauro Picotto’s Meganite focuses on dark, rockin’ techno from Adam Beyer or Paul Ritch or Smith & Selway. Power! In the Coco Loco, whilst the sounds might not be quite so hard, don’t expect Seth Troxler or Marco Carola to go easy on you. Wicked line ups.

On Thursday, Monza continue the same theme with Luciano, Tobi Neumann, Federico Molinari and Nima Gorji just a taste of what to expect. Last season’s finale turned into a mammoth event with techno god Ricardo Villalobos alongside Luciano and the ‘2 kool 4 skool’ Romanians Raresh and Rhadoo, M.A.N.D.Y. turned up as well; sounds like a minimal wet dream!

Antifmradio News : Montreal electronic music festival MUTEK turns 10
Posted by: antifmradio   Date:05-Fri-2009

A decade ago, North American audiences regarded electronic music with a mixture of apprehension and resistance. In 1999, two crucial developments helped shift public perception of the music.

The first was the release of Moby’s album Play. Until then, Moby was best known for playing hardcore punk rock and creating obscure techno remixes of other artists’ tracks. Play fused the pulsating rhythms of house music and sampled excerpts of traditional gospel and folk songs. Tunes like Porcelain and Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad became ubiquitous, thanks to a novel marketing deal in which Moby licensed every track on his album for use in TV shows, films and commercials.

The second key event in the history of North American electronic music happened in Montreal, where a whiz kid named Alain Mongeau — who had a PhD in interactivity — became the head of developing new media programs for Ex-Centris, a new cultural centre. Mongeau’s inaugural project was MUTEK, a forward-thinking festival celebrating electronic music and the digital arts. Though similar events existed in Europe, MUTEK was the first of its kind on this side of the pond.

'We were all aware that there was a lot of potential in Canada in terms of electronic music and culture, but we needed exposure. MUTEK helped build bridges between the Montreal community and the rest of the world.'
—Marc Leclair, aka Akufen

Antifmradio News : Deadmau5 Interview
Posted by: antifmradio   Date:05-Sat-2009

As the rather enigmatic man behind Deadmau5 gears up for his stint at this year’s Creamfield party times, we caught up with the big headed character to find out just what is happening in the world of dance.

You absolutely smashed it at Creamfields 10th anniversary, are you looking forward to coming back in 2009?

I was so impressed last time and am very excited about coming back this year.

You are going to be headlining the Mixmag Terrace a new stage to Creamfields 2009, what can the fans expect?
